Atlas Heavy Transport (AHT) were awarded the rigging and heavy haul transport of a large HP Fuel Gas Mixing Drum. With over 1,000,000 lbs. on the road this complex and specialized transport move was our customer’s largest component they’d ever fabricated.
The load was to travel ~200 miles from McGregor, TX to the barge site at Victoria, TX where it would be rolled on to a barge and towed to Cameron, Louisiana. Our initial concept utilizing the dual lane Goldhofer alone would not have worked due to load concentration on bridges. With the collective efforts and ingenuity of our engineering team, our fab shop, field supervisors and the bridge engineer, we custom-designed a transporter utilizing a flexible dolly outrigger system which worked in tandem with our Goldhofer SL trailers and allowed us to change the width based upon the bridge width and therefore maximize the weight distribution.
Having completed the over the road journey successfully, AHT were faced with the challenge of an incoming hurricane. Precautions were taken to safely secure the load and await the bad weather to pass before the barge could come in. At that time the load was rolled on, secured and trailer rolled off allowing the barge to complete this complex multimodal transport move and begin the tow to Cameron. Upon arrival to the destination the cargo was offloaded safely to complete this project successfully without any incidents.
All engineering, design and fabrication was completed in house.
At Atlas Heavy, we’re engineered to move.
